IIE-NEC INCUBATION CENTRE AT NAGALAND UNIVERSITY

Nagaland University was officially selected as one of the "Host Institute" for the establishment of a state-of-the-art Incubation Centre (IC) under the regional project titled "Establish, Develop and Manage Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC) and Incubation Centres (IC) in North East Region's Educational Institutions". Sanctioned by the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), Guwahati—an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Government of India—the centre is sponsored by the North Eastern Council (NEC), Shillong, with the IIE serving as the project's Nodal Agency. The centre is currently being hosted by the Department of Management in the the Library Building of the University. Operating out of a dedicated space of around 600 square feet on campus, the Incubation Centre is designed to drive grassroots innovation, strengthen the local entrepreneurial ecosystem, and provide a nurturing environment for student and youth startup founders from both within and outside the university.

The centre is currently being headed by Dr. Dhrubajyoti Bordoloi and Dr. Ditalak Mpanme of the Department of Management, Nagaland University Kohima Campus, Meriema, as the Coordinator and Joint Coordinator respectively

The centre is on the process of equipping itself with vital capital assets, advanced technological infrastructure, and operational funding. The facility will feature a fully furnished co-working space alongside a specialized Fab Lab / Prototyping Lab equipped with modern design software, basic hardware toolkits, a 3D printer, and a small 5-axis CNC machine. Moving forward, the Incubation Centre will roll out a comprehensive pipeline of entrepreneurial activities, ranging from campus sensitization seminars, idea competitions, and hackathons to intensive three-month boot camps and incubation programs. Through curated investor pitch meets, demo days, and dedicated mentorship on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and government schemes, Nagaland University aims to successfully graduate a new generation of viable business ventures capable of fostering sustainable economic growth across the North East.

During the financial year 2025-26, the IIE-NEC Incubation Programme successfully conducted the 6 months online incubation programme. The first batch of Incubatees of the centre were selected after a rigorous process conducted by the EDCs established under this project. The Incubatees hails from Nagaland, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur respectively.
